Algorithmic Shoe

This project is part of an academic research project with Liz Ciokajlo from Our Own Skin,
with the aim of creating an extremely comfortable, flexible, 3D printed shoe.

Algorithmic Design

We took 3D scans of existing feet in various positions to create a digital shoe last, and then generated a Chiral pattern over the last using an algorithm designed in Grasshopper/Rhino.

The final shoe was printed in SLS Nylon, with the Chiral pattern allowing the nylon to stretch and return to its original shape.

The design can be adapted to accommodate any foot, and any design, providing an ultra comfortable fit.
